Secretary Blinken highlights issues in Pakistan.
The State Department recently released its 2021 Report on International Religious Freedom which tracks information from nearly 200 countries. This report to Congress identifies nations that lack religious freedom as well as those that have made improvements.
Morocco, Taiwan, and Iraq have improved while India, China, and Saudi Arabia are worsening with regard to religious freedom.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken pointed out Pakistan’s apostasy and blasphemy laws as being especially concerning, as more than a dozen individuals were sentenced to death in 2021. Harassment, discrimination, and mob violence toward religious minorities in that country are also a result of these laws.
